Director Statement

I moved to the US in 2016, pursuing my master’s degree in the land of dreams. I had to live with my Aunt and Uncle for a while to start. We had so many different perspectives and did not get along very well. One day, in a conversation, my Uncle said, “My generation is taught to work hard. We gave your generation everything, and now your generation can’t do anything on your own.”

A few months after that conversation, I moved out. Nothing felt better than that: to prove that I am capable of standing on my own, even though I am struggling. I could have a much easier life if I just stayed in Indonesia, or if I stayed with my Aunt and Uncle. Even if it is harder now, I like this feeling of self-satisfaction and being able to prove that I am capable of living on my own. Through my thesis film, 20s, I want to portray the world that my generation is living in, and the impact of Internet culture for us to ‘believe in our dream.
