Director Biography - Captain The Intellectual Stimulator

Northern Touch Films, founded in 2000 by Captain, is a Ottawa based film company and video/print magazine platform for the purpose of documenting African Canadian/Caribbean culture. Also to give a platform for artists and businesses to reach a wider demographic. With the film side of the company, he eventually started to direct music videos and commercials for local businesses. In 2014 Captain alongside 2 other Ottawa artists he opened The Origin Arts and Community Center. The Origin is a arts center that is dedicated to the development, promotion, nurturing of local emerging and established artists and content creators to grow, display and perfect their craft in their respective disciplines. In 2019 The Origin acquired it's non profit status of which Captain is the president. Captain being a part of the Hip-Hop scene in Ottawa since 1988, saw a need to create a stronger avenue for emerging artists. In 2015 Soul City Music Fest was born, a free local annual urban music and Afro Centric arts music festival that prides itself in giving back to the community. Captain has decades of experience in the arts as a M.C., poet, producer, Hip-Hop historian and teacher which has led him to become a screenwriter which manifested into 2 features length films, ‘1 Weekend’ also ‘1 Weekend Pt. 2’ (A Love Story). When music is not his focus, making films is his secondary passion with a goal to tell true authentic stories from an African Canadian/Caribbean perspective. Regardless of the artistic medium, he has never strayed far from his roots, which is grounded in Hip-Hop culture and grass roots activism. With a real message to the youth of today through music, film and literature, his art is raw, informative, preventive and truthful from someone who has lived it, done it and is always ready to tell his story.
