I first came up with the tune for the main theme of "Practice" as a freshman in college. For years I planned to develop and use it for something. A few years later, the idea for the story occurred to me in the middle of the night, in a state between dreaming and wakefulness. The more I thought about it while lying there in the dark, the more terrified I became. My only relief lay in realizing that I had finally come up with a use for the tune I had composed a few years earlier.
