Lifeboats

Faced with extinction after their world was taken from them, one race will do everything it can to survive.

Taking the point of view of one person, Lifeboats is a skewed look at the lengths that some will go to in order to survive the world they live in and look for a better future.
What would you do if your world was taken from you, and your only choice was to live in fear, or the slim chance to escape to a place that could offer you a new life?

Director Biography - Kit McDee

Kit McDee has always been involved in making visual displays. Starting with small events for family, through artwork and illustration and into live action theatre, films were the natural progression.

He has been working as a film and TV editor for more than 15 years in both the UK and Australia. During that time he has helped to shape shows that include The Biggest Loser, Big Brother, Australian Idol, So You Think You Can Dance Australia, Masterchef and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here - as well as having made numerous award winning short films and music videos.

In 2012 he co-wrote and directed his first feature film, an Australia action called 'The Hunters Club', which is currently in post production. With very little budget, he is working hard to get it finished and out there for the world to see (and hopefully enjoy a little bit to). It is currently scheduled for a 2016 release.

Director Statement

Lifeboats is a Sci-Fi Fantasy short animation. This film was created with the idea of presenting a different perspective on the subject of asylum seekers. While the subject of 'boat people' that this film was inspired by is a uniquely Australian one, the subject matter is not. However, I did not particularly set out to make a political statement, it was more that I wanted to hopefully cause the audience a moment of pause - a chance to look at the topic from a slightly different perspective and realise that, like many of the issues we face today, there is rarely one point of view to consider.
