"Hungry"
An idealistic grade school teacher has a fear of speaking up in public (other than in front of her kids). But when she finds out that children in her school are going hungry - thanks to federal cutbacks - it compels her to do things she wouldn't have thought she could do, including confronting a Congressman, to help out the children.
NOTE: This 20 minute version of "Hungry" was completed in June 2016, but the earlier 23:45 version was completed Sept. 2015 -- We have left up on this version's screening and award information, all the awards accrued & festival screenings of both versions.

Thomas Simon Bio ( Co-Director, Composer, Editor, Producer)
European born Musician/Composer/Producer/Director Thomas Simon moved to New York City to expand his horizon in his life in art. Within the past year, his atmospheric ambient live show "Thomas Simon Vortex" toured repeatedly in the USA, South America and Europe. He created the soundtrack to the feature film "Exit 0", starring Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction) and Federico Castelluccio (The Sopranos), released his latest short film "A Chance" and is collaborating with João Milet Meirelles, Brazilian electronic musician extraordinaire (Baiana System) on an experimental-rock-ambient project "Sonar Atmosfera".
Together with his wife Jillie Simon, Thomas produces music and films through their "Endorphin Records" production company. Their first narrative short "Hungry", starring Jillie Simon and Eric Roberts has been honored with 11 awards in 32 festival screenings to date.
Additional soundtrack credits include award-winning feature film “La Redempcio dels Peixos”, starring Luis Soler (Spain/Italy/USA) for which Thomas was nominated for Best Music/Best Song at the Milan International Film Festival 2013. The movie had a theatrical release in Spain in 2014. That year, Thomas also produced, edited and did soundtrack work on documentary feature “Lucky Express” (which landed distribution with Cinema Libre Studios and is available on Amazon Prime).
Thomas directed and produced four award winning music videos between 2009 and 2013 (two of which he collaborated on with Jillie -see details at www.thomassimon.nyc).
As a musician, he produced and recorded eleven CD’s, the latest "Sonar Atmosfera" recorded in Salvador, Brazil in 2019 - then, four solo albums, two with the project LOVE ALIEN, and four with the band Musiciens Sans Frontieres, all of them released on their independent label, endorphin records. Numerous songs off the albums have received airplay on commercial and college radio world-wide, with “Affection”, off MSF’s album “Satellite” being placed on the GRAMMY ballot in 2008.
Thomas composed the music for rock opera "THE DAMNED", which ran for six weeks in Nov/Dec, 2001, to sold out houses (Kraine Theater, NYC), directed and co-written by five-time Emmy winner William Electric Black) and performed live with the cast. More soundtrack credits include commissions by Saucon Films to create ambient pieces and segue-ways for their feature "Black Wine", and in 2003 Thomas made his debut film, a documentary/musical travelogue called “Thomas Simon: Walkabout” (USA/Nepal/India/Brazil) which was streamed on Current TV in 2005.
"Hungry" is a story about empowerment, about taking action, and about the urgent need to feed hungry children. There are millions of children around the world who suffer food insecurity every day. Yet the resources are out there - no child should be going hungry. With the short film "Hungry" we're hoping to help spark the global conversation about finally making that a reality.
Thomas had brought me (Jillie) a couple of news articles on teachers who'd paid out of their pockets in order to get some children in their classes lunch balances up, because the kids were going through their day hungry, and I thought that would be an important thing to shine a light on and create a story about.
Eric Roberts' representatives reached out to us because of Eric's interest in the topic, and after reading and loving the script, he came on-board to play Congressman Thicke.
