Best Screenplay, Best Direction, Best Sound, Best Production Design
Larica Perera was born in Bandarawela, Sri Lanka and moved to the Philippines shortly after. At the age of six, she immigrated to Canada with her parents and three younger brothers.
Her short film “Anatomy of a Sunbeam” earned Best Direction, Best Screenplay, Best Production Design and Best Sound at Sheridan’s 2013 Media Arts Awards. It was also officially selected into Yonkers Film Festival, New Hope Film Festival, XpoNorth, and received the Canadian Cinema Editors Student Merit Award.
Larica also recently launched “Greenwood” earlier this year, with over 7K views online. The film has been used to promote mental health awareness and to propagate discussions about the stigma surrounding mental health.
Her latest film “TIK-TIK” is an exciting new venture into the horror genre, inspired by the Filipino folklore stories with which she grew up.
I believe that as people, the power of sharing our individual stories and finding relation and connection in them, is a beautiful and powerful thing that I hope to continue to hone for the rest of my filmmaking life. Anatomy of a Sunbeam is a story about two people aiming to lead each other out of something sad, burdened and dark.
