Director Biography - Fabian Hee

As a child, Fabian had always loved film. His interest in film was sidetracked in his later youth by the pomp and the rise of video games, leading him to land his "dream job" in the games industry as a Sound Designer. One thing lead to another and he finally rekindled his joy with film after being able to afford his first ever video DSLR camera at the late age of 28. After all these years, his childhood dreams of telling stories has finally begun.

Director Statement

I was sitting down at my desk, looking out the window on typical a rainy day in the tropics. Pen in hand, I was writing my first ever script for a short film. A gangster flick but grounded in the experiences of my past.

The Accountant, The Man was born.

This film is quite a personal one for myself as it is the first proper film I've ever worked on. The no-budget aspect of it aside, the chance to be able to produce, write, direct, edit and act in my very first short film is something of a personal feat and statement to Borneo film-makers to push the boundaries of our stale mindset.

I hope this film inspires the viewers to take the risk to follow their dreams. Much like the protagonist in this film, we sometimes need to look at our past and be true to ourselves in order to achieve what we've always dreamed of.

I also hope that other film-makers can go all out in creating films that are true to themselves. Especially here in South East Asia, the pressures of a conservative society hinders creativity and I hope that by watching this film, more will be inspired to make a film that's dear to their heart, no matter what criticisms come their way.
