Damaged Goods

The short film “Damaged Goods” tells the story of Brandon, whose self-esteem has reached an all-time low due to having been bullied repeatedly during his childhood for looking and acting “different.” Brandon battles daily with depression, sleepless nights, and constant distracting thoughts about how to find a way to live in peace. His delicate state of mind gives way to habitual drug and alcohol use to escape the torture.

The suppressed anger from his childhood bullying is frequently released during his substance-abuse bouts, and he finds himself becoming just like those who abused him. With his mental state plummeting faster by the minute, Brandon begins to think there’s no reason to continue living, because the pain will never cease.

Director Biography - Nathaniel Nuñez

Actor and writer Nathaniel Nuñez possesses the ability to transform into different characters, but as a generally shy and reserved person, his talents continue to shock and of course entertain audiences. Originally from Fort Wayne, IN, Nathaniel first stepped on stage when he was fourteen years old, playing an over the top bellhop in the comedic farce Lend Me a Tenor. For his friends and family, watching Nathaniel perform was like seeing him for the first time.

After earning a few notable theater credits during attendance at Indiana University (Dinner with Friends, Big Love, and an original one act play Earth on Heaven by fellow thespian Jamaal McCray); attending an internship in Pasadena, CA, where he worked under the visual effects supervisor on a Star Wars short film; writing a dramatic play and two horror screenplays; and directing his first play; Nathaniel was ready to take the leap after graduation and fly to Los Angeles.

Since arriving in California, Nathaniel has starred in the independent film Spectrum Hunter, had a guest spot on the web series Part-time Fame, and recently became a member of SAG-AFTRA. Jonaral Martin and Nathaniel formed Barking Cat Entertainment to shine light on characters and stories that are unique, surprising, and sometimes even invisible to the world majority.

Damaged Goods is Nathaniel’s first credit as director and cinematographer.

Director Statement

Through what we have officially labeled an Anti-Suffering Movement, our ultimate goal is to share this film and its message of hope, love, and support with as many people around the world as possible, particularly those of us who are suffering from the effects of severely depleted mental health leaving feelings of worthlessness. Barking Cat Entertainment and Hustle Diva have collaborated on this project with the intention to not only uplift and inspire those who are drowning in misery but also challenge the focal point of those who pass judgment on the wounded and, as a result, fail to reach out to help.

We feel strongly that this work can and will make a significant difference in people's lives.
