Confidential Despatch

Confidential Despatch is an experimental film that responds to the consequences of domestic enslavement. The film focuses on the case of a young Foulah girl named Fatima who was illegally purchased by Mr Firminger who was a colonial administrative Officer of the Gold Coast colony in West Africa at the turn of the 19th century. The work incorporates the British colonial confidential correspondence archival documents that became known as the Firminger Scandal of 1891. The soundscape features snippets of my mother's childhood memories of the colonial system in Ghana, West Africa before independence and the legacy of colonisation.
