Director Statement

Pocket Money was conceived by writer/director Matt Durrant in response to the regularity of drive-by shootings and gangland murders in Sydney and the media response to it which was often restricted to limited information, objective statistics and politically driven sound bites.
Instead of following a story about the gang culture that leads to a majority of these shootings, Pocket Money is about the perspective of innocent bystanders and unwilling witnesses who are often drawn into these crimes by circumstance. It is these people that rarely get a voice or a passing thought.
