Joey Manalang was born and raised in Manila. In 1991, he moved to Japan. He took a directing/screenwriting course at the New York Film Academy and studied cinematography at Los Angeles Film School. After coming back to Japan, he worked as a production assistant on the set of The Last Samurai, worked with the sound crew of Lost in Translation and then he was a cast liaison on the set of The Grudge, the Hollywood remake of the Japanese horror film Juon. Most recently, he worked with the Art Dept for a sci-fi film called Equals.
We all have stories to tell. Some people use music or poetry to convey a message. Some people express their emotion through photographs, or paintings, or artwork and architecture. Some people tell their stories through writing books or through some other medium to get across a point or an idea, but I believe telling stories through film is the grandest of all.
