Michele was always fascinated by moving images and started collecting 8mm and Super 8mm films on a regular basis from the age of seven. At the age of 17 he began collecting 35 mm theatrical prints of all his beloved films in earnest, whilst attending a screenwriting class taught by some of Italy's grand masters of cinema like Nanny Loy, Luigi Filippo D'Amico and Academy Award winners Suso Cecchi D'amico and Ugo Pirro. This led to years of working in movies, TV shows, commercials and documentaries as a first assistant director, production manager, executive producer and screenwriter for the likes of Lucio Fulci (his beloved master), Bernardino Zapponi, Ruggero Deodato, Michele Placido, Bud Spencer, Dario Argento and many, many, others. With Planet Pictures, he also financed and developed such high profile projects like Lars Von Trier's Manderlay and Dogville starring Nicole Kidman, Alex De La Iglesia's Comunidad and El Crimen Ferpecto, Vincente Vincente Aranda's Juana La Loca and Carmen. He also served AYP as legal consultant for Zack Snyder's remake of Dawn of the dead. With Noshame Films then he financed Asylum, Tamara, The Plague, and Noise starring Academy Award winner Tim Robbins, plus many more major productions. In 2012 he shot his first fiction short film Doors. Selected in 32 International Film Festivals including Off Courts Trouville, Cannes, Filmets, Jagran and more all over the world, Doors won two prizes. One in Germany, for Best cinematography, and the Jury Prize of the 4th SHIFF in Salt Lake City, USA. In 2015 Michele won the short film fund of Film Commission Torino Piemonte and the short film fund of the Macedonian Film Agency. This unprecedented coproduction between Italy and North Macedonia on a short film, with a pre-sale to a USA leading streaming service , led in 2017 to the shooting of The Man In The Movie Camera, an uncompromising rollercoaster ride meta linguist thriller on film history that was released theatrically in the USA. 14 is his latest work.
The film is a manifesto on violence. Usually movies show portraits of brutal men but here I wanted to show the same kind of ferocious attitude in a woman. But is Giovanna really only a woman? Or just a man trapped in a female body? The way she walks, talks and acts is the one of a man. Even her sexual behavior is predatory and in the end some kind of violence is just part of the male nature more than the female one. Inspired by true events, the film is loosely based on real life assassin Johanna Dennehy.
