Marcos Estrada is an immigrant, transnational and sociologist with an increasing interest in visual ethnography as a tool to register meaningful narratives of everyday life. As an amateur actor, vivid reader and documentary lover, he always had interest in the different forms of storytelling. With a degree in International Studies, having lived in five different countries himself, Marcos has a particular in interest in the narrative of immigrants. The Marcos’s interest in producing the documentary Brasiguaios was to offer those people the opportunity to share their unsung migration experiences and identities spanning Brazil and Paraguay.
My interest is to present the narrative of migrants through visual media. Each narrative has an unique account. The use of video recording is growing faster day by day, and individuals, not just young people, are prone to listening to video media. Participants in my documentary feel very excited by the acceptances, which I shared with them each time; it is an honour for them to know their stories will reach many people who may have never heard about them before. Their excitement motivates me to carry out my work. The film ‘El baño del Papa’ (2007), that is ‘the Pope’s toilet’ by César Charlone, set within the border between Brazil and Uruguay, inspired me to capture the narrative of Brasiguaios, within the border between Brazil and Paraguay, whose voice is often unheard.
