Camellia - Kerria - Pink 山茶花‐山吹‐撫子
1941, in Japan, 3 Japanese young women, Michiyo, Fumiko, and Haruko are having lovely afternoon tea in a park, celebrating Fumiko's engagement. It seems nothing concerns them except for not getting a good seat for the show of their favorite Kabuki actor.
But actually, it is a week before the fatal Pearl Harbor Attack of the Japanese Imperial army, and they have thrown themselves into the swirl of the most violent war in world history.

Tomoko Karina was born in a metropolitan city of Tokyo, Japan to loving parents, her father, Mikio, who is an ambitious aspiring entrepreneur, son of blue color single mother in Kyoto, and her mother, Yoshiko, who is a sheltered classy elegant daughter of a steel mogul. Being hugely influenced by her film and history fanatic father Mikio, Tomoko grew up watching the greatest classic Hollywood films and Japanese period dramas. Tomoko was sent to a prestigious all girl's school near imperial palace from age of 12 to 22 till she graduates a university. In her school days, Tomoko was an entertainer, comedian, rebel and leader in an all-girl class. As she embraced the sisterhood, she learnt how to be in charge and girl can rock and rule! She always questioned authority and what is "Normal" which Japanese society always forced her behave especially in a strict girl's school she grew up in. She appreciated and found oasis in rebellious loud rock, punk and alternative music as well as classic Hollywood and Japanese films and intimate European films.
at 18, a day after she graduated high school, she traveled to Los Angeles with her BFF and a fake ID. Tomoko reconfirmed within her that she belongs to Hollywood. After college, she immediately moved to Los Angeles pursuing acting, studying at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and Play House West, then soon landed several commercial jobs but still struggling with her English. Tomoko decided to move back to Japan to explore her craft of acting that she learnt with great teachers in LA such as Robert Carnegie and Jeff Goldblum with her native tongue, Japanese. In Tokyo, she landed major TV and Theater roles and also debut as a theater director with her own play, "2 Lies and 3 Dreams and Hollywood". "Camellia- Kerria- Pink" is Tomoko's first film directorial project.
There are several theories on the fatal Attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 by the Japanese Imperial Army. The information differs according to the books that we can access in Japan, the US, and Europe. The Code “Tora Tora Tora” was already broken by the pentagon, The US knew about it, but used it as an excuse to join the war, or Japan was on the edge and really proceeded with the surprise attack, etc…
History is always told from the favor or ideal of the storyteller, so why not, I would present my version of it? I was intrigued by the idea that if, the fatal attack on Hawaii island that started WWII was triggered by the scheme (ideology) of 3 young women, who seems innocent and completely had nothing to with war or violence.
Japan was arrogant in the 1940s, after winning the war with China and Russia. The Japanese army and emperor were delusional that they can win the war over England and the US allying with Germany. Their sense of morality was destroyed. They did a series of inhuman atrocities. As a Japanese citizen, That time in Japanese history is shameful, and the country was on the rapid train going the utterly wrong direction. We had to be better than that. Those 3 women represent mothers punishing arrogant children whose ego has gotten too swallow to handle themselves.
