Karen is a SAG-AFTRA member who wears many hats within the industry. She is probably best known for her voice over work, standup comedy, and work behind the scenes primarily in post-production. You might have heard her as the voice of the villain, Nebulosa, in the Netflix sensation and light hearted holiday classic… "Mummy, I'm a Zombie."
When I'm directing, I know that I'm where I'm supposed to be.
With “Love in the Age of Steam” I wanted to not only show that some stories like love and lose are universal but to entertain, enlighten and inspire. How better to motivate a young person to embrace math and science then with a character like my tinker, played by Genevieve Levin, who’s both an engineer and a scientist? Her struggles are universal but in order to make them more interesting I put them in a unique universe.
My brother David and his wife Joyce have somewhat of a following on Facebook as their invented personas Steampunk Molly and the Edison Family Fairy Hunters, so it’s no surprise that I’d want to play in that realm when I set out to make “Love in the Age of Steam.”
What is Steampunk? It’s more than just Victorian clothes and goggles, it’s an alternative Victorian era with tons of high-tech gadgets that run on steam power, from air ships to communication devices and anything else you can imagine. Just like other historical eras there are people today who use it as settings for stories or spend time recreating it for fun, but unlike eras like the Civil War it’s fictional, so there’s a lot of room for creativity.
If it wasn’t for my amazing cast and crew “Love in the Age of Steam” wouldn’t exist. I had very little time and no budget, but they had faith in me and together we made it happen. There were mistakes and setbacks, but we pushed through them and never gave up, and in the end I hope we created something that will achieve our goal to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
