Director Biography - Liesl Ahlers

Liesl Ahlers is the Director of Daylight. She also acts as Producer and co-writer and portrays the role of Aislinn in the film. Liesl is a 26-year-old South African film actress. She studied Acting for Film & Television in Canada at the Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts (VADA). After graduating at the top of her class, she returned to South Africa. Upon returning she worked alongside William Hurt in BBC Two's The Challenger Disaster. She acted in Brunch that got selected into film festivals in New York and Seattle. Liesl was cast as the role of Marina Mills, opposite an all-international cast in the international feature film Friend Request for which she received an Award at the Russian International Horror Film Awards in March 2018. Liesl acts as voice and motion capture artist for the character of Sophie in the animation series Inside Job. She portrayed the role of Zelda in the third season of South Africa's Emmy nominated series: Sokhulu & Partners.

Liesl will portray the lead in a new South African Drama Thriller Series to be aired in 2018. Daylight is Liesl’s directorial debut. Liesl decided to write and personally fund Daylight because; she felt the need to create global awareness concerning the devastating HIV/AIDS epidemic in her country - specifically its devastating effect on children, whom she feels represent her country's future.

Director Statement

I am Liesl Ahlers, a 26-year-old female South African citizen, I am the Director of Daylight: an important South African Awareness film.

I decided to write and personally fund Daylight because; I felt the need to create both local and global awareness concerning the devastating HIV/AIDS epidemic in my country.

In South Africa the HIV/AIDS epidemic destroy and negatively impact the lives of all especially our children. Former South African President Nelson Mandela once said: “Children are our greatest treasure, they are our future”.

Daylight shares the story of this heart-breaking epidemic from the perspective of a six-year-old boy. It encourages the viewer to take a new perspective on the epidemic and its devastating effect on our world, our children, and ultimately our future...
