INDICTUS: The Land is No One's
Short Summary
It all begins with a legend, the Legend of the 46 Norman soldiers that with the help of Saint George killed 3000 Arabs in a single night in 1063. After that fateful night, Sicily became
an easy conquest for the military forces of France. A fight between two great religions that brings back the conflict to our present days.
From this legend, this new Thermopylae, a new hero is born in Cerami: Serlon The Warlord! The French are more than happy at the court of Jerax, in the heart of Sicily, and celebrating.
It doesn’t take long for the infidels to be banished from the island. Benavert, emir of Syracuse, the last to fall, plotted against the Normans by sending Prince Ibrahim asking for
armistice.
The project
A web series composed by 7 episodes of 10 minutes each. 70 minutes to tell an unknown Sicily. A land of innovations, where the rocky mountains became castles for us to explore,
the Madonie. The events are juxtaposed with short digressions called Indictus (literally, what is not told) that subvert the storyline and provide two different points of view: the
classic tale narrated by the winners and the one of the defeated.
The Impact
Indictus is born from a 1000 years long story that began when Northen people crossed Europe to get to this exotic island, at times when the Pillars of Hercules were considered
to be the World’s border.
In Sicily you will find the most warm and welcoming people, descendants of viking explorers’ curiosity and arabian merchants’ speech.
We know hidden places we want to show and we know stories you won’t find in books; and these places and stories need to be brought back to life. You might find them in our language, in our food and in our habits and we want to share these things, because the land is no one’s.
We belong to a land of people, a land of welcome that shouldn’t be the graveyard of any sailor.
Subtitles in English, Arabic and Chinese.
