Cole Fowler was born and raised in Austin, Texas. While some kids wanted to be an astronaut, Cole desperately wanted to be a magician. He trained for several years in the art of magic tricks, juggling, and, yes, clowning. As a teenager, Cole’s passion for magic morphed into a more general love of performing and storytelling. He found himself acting, writing, and directing for the stage as often as he could.
Cole then went on to the University of Southern California, where he received a B.A. in Cinema-Television Critical Studies and a minor in Business Administration. While in school, Cole interned in various areas of the television industry, including the drama development department at ABC and the current series department at Fox. After graduating, Cole went on to earn a Television Writing Certificate through the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program, where he focused in one-hour drama.
Cole served as the showrunner’s assistant on Brothers & Sisters and a producer’s assistant on Fringe, where he wrote the Fringe comic entitled “Imagine If… Walter Outlived the Earth,” available online through DC Comics. Cole has also served as the script coordinator on Twisted, Scream, and the first three seasons of How to Get Away with Murder. Cole won 1st place in Scriptapalooza TV for his spec script of The Good Wife, and his pilots Hollywood Hustle, Face 2 Face, and Turning Point have all placed as quarter-finalists in the Austin Film Festival Teleplay Competition. Cole wrote an episode of the web series Coffee Talk called “Sugar Daddy,” which along with the other episodes, won Official Selection in the Queer Bits Film Festival and Desperado LGBT Film Festival. Cole most recently served as the writers’ assistant on the Freeform drama Siren. Cole is managed by Dianne Fraser at Industry Entertainment.
Cole intends to bring more complicated, three-dimensional LGBTQIA characters to the small screen.
