The Honour of Belgium

THE HONOUR OF BELGIUM is a trenchant, often surrealistic comedy set on the Belgian-French border after the imagined final collapse of the European Union. It is set mainly in the ‘Monastery of the Eternal Virgin’, where three intrepid conscientious defectors, JOOLS PANTOUFLES, FRANK EVANS, and GENEVIEVE JARDIN—the self-styled ‘Maid of Knokke’—attempt to repel French invaders intent on reaching ‘Belle Belgium’, a paradise of waffles and polders. Having turned their backs on all things Gallic—and Anglo Saxon—and preaching that Charloi is the most beautiful city on earth, they are prepared to die, and die often, ‘for the honour of Belgium’..
