Writer Biography - Mark Turner

A graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia with a BA in T.V. & Film, Mark’s storytelling career began as a Television Photojournalist creating numerous award-winning narrative vignettes garnering record high ratings and winning 2 spot news Emmys.

Always working to hone his craft, Mark was part of the television writing program at AFI (American Film Institute) and the screenwriting program at UCLA Extension. For years, Mark wrote and performed standup comedy, before training in Sheree Guitar's sitcom writer’s room workshops creating spec scripts, pitching, breaking stories, and punching-up material.

Mark's TV and Feature scripts finished in the top 12 at the Austin Film Festival Screenplay competition, a finalist in the South Carolina Underground Film Festival, an Official Selection in the Beverly Hills Film Festival and final 10 in the FILMMATIC Screenplay Awards.

He’s written numerous television pitches including pitches for Disney Television Animation, and Johnny Depp's company, Infinitum Nihil.

Writer Statement

Married in a "shot-gun wedding" at 16, Mark's endured more life-altering situations then most subjects of Breaking The Band.  Since trading the Hollywood Hills for the Ozark Mountains, Mark stays in touch with Hollywood as a story consultant for Creative Executives and also creating pitches and pitch decks for them.

Oh, yeah, Mark's scripts finished in the top of a bunch of contests, top 10-17 percent of all contests entered.
