Born in the Bronx, New York City on 24th November 1981 but
raised in Harlem, Stan “BRAVO” Campbell is a product of hip hop culture. Being influenced by the
likes of Run DMC, LL Cool J, Biggie Smalls, Big L & Tupac Shakur, “Growing up in the 80’s in New
York, I was too young to really digest the music but it wasn’t until 1994 when I heard the
Notorious B.I.G’s ‘Ready To Die’ LP that I said to myself, this is what I gotta do too”. After
discovering his passion for writing, having won several literacy awards, Stan was encouraged by
his cousin to turn his attention to writing rhymes. While the rhyme itself was mainly about the
streets in Harlem, it was enough to impress his older peer. This proved as motivation for Stan but
it wasn’t until the untimely death of his father at the age of 17 that Stan really took his music
seriously. Relocating to Australia with his mother, older brother and younger sister and settling
in the Western Sydney suburb of Blacktown, Bravo began his journey in the uncharted waters of
Hip Hop in Australia. “First off, I don’t want people to get it twisted. Yes I am from Harlem so of
course I am going to represent my town to the fullest, but at the same time I have been living in
Sydney for years, being educated and having lived in Blacktown in Sydney’s Western Suburbs for
most of my time in Sydney, its my home.
Stan’s hunger for success in the Australian rap scene has seen him front and centre as Tour MC
at the Ja Rule / Ashanti concerts in 2003 as well as support act for Ruff Ryder Crew’s Jin, the
legendary Busta Rhymes in 2004 as well as being a part of the main support act for The Nelly St.
luanatic tour. Which saw Stan performing in front of thousands in Syd, Melbourne Perth and
Adelaide. His work in the industry saw him garner two major award nominations. Best New Artist
at 2006 Urban Music Awards and Urban work of the Year for at 2007 Apra Music Awards. Stan
was also a finalist of the 2011 Apra Professional Development Awards.
During his time as a recording artist Stan also began to dabble in acting as a way to "earn some
extra cash". He started off as an extra in TV commercials and movies such as the Matrix 2 and 3.
It was at this time that Bravo felt the acting bug he states "When were on set I just loved every
single thing about it. I knew that I had to be a part of the film making process I just didn't know
how I was going to do it." The "how" would come much later when Stan finally decided to go to
study screen production, Bravo states" I figured out that screen writing and storytelling came
pretty easy to me because I had been doing it for so long as a song writer. From there I went to
school and earned a Diploma in Screen Media. After that I dedicated myself to tell great stories
and create compelling content."
Uriel is a gritty "superhero" film. It is a story about a former astronaut who not struggles with having survivors guilt after being the sole survivor of his shuttle crash which killed the rest of his crew. But also the strange "images" that have been haunting him after since the accident. One vision in particular or a young boy being murdered continues to haunt him. This vision or "image" as Uriel describes it, motivates him to want to help people as a way to redeem him self for not trusting his instincts to help the boy after he saw a vision of the Vice Principal abusing him.
The overall theme that this film deals with is the idea of guilt and redemption.
