BIRTH. HUMANE WAY

I filmed this documentary during the nine months of my pregnancy. That was difficult, a few times my baby could have died. This film is a social experiment that purpose is to show the situation in Ukrainian hospitals and maternity wards, I try to depict an attitude of doctors to pregnant women. Medical staff were often rude, irresponsible, they extorted money. I try to look for the answer why doctors are bad-behaved and most of Ukrainian female patients put up with this attitude?

Director Biography - Olena Solodovnikova

My name is Olena Solodovnikova, I’m an independent filmmaker from Ukraine. I have worked as investigator-journalist for 8 years, making reports about corruption in Ukraine. Since the conflict started i have been making from hotspots in Ukraine – Slavyansk, Debalzevo, Peski, Ilovayslk, Mariupol.
I have worked in the conflict zone for two years, being one of a few Ukrainian journalists who make reports about the war on both sides of the front line.
I have over ten years experience shooting, writing, film-editing & producing for media. I have held various reporter & editor positions in main Ukrainian Channels. I enjoy the challenges, can manage a team or work alone due hard deadlines. I am comfortable researching, writing, filming and editing on a wide range of topics, especially social & military stuff.
