Experiencing Interruptions?

The Flying Rivers

From the heart of the Amazon rain forest to our European laboratories, climatologists, biologists and chemists are exploring and are starting to understand a mystery: the central role of forests in cloud formation.

Spectacular images will illustrate a strong ecological message and increase awareness of the danger that deforestation represent for our planet.

Director Statement

When we talk about the environmental crisis to the general public, we talk almost nine times out of ten about climate change. And when the time comes to address the solutions to this problem, we talk, almost exclusively, about the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our industrial societies.

To a quantified problem, we try to provide quantified answers; and we focus on the atmosphere, which surrounds our planet.

It is to forget that a large part of the solution for the future of humanity lies on the very surface of the Earth: in the biosphere.

Forests play a role in the functioning of the planet as primordial as it is ignored by most human beings. They suffer the assaults of men and retreat inexorably. But what if, with deforestation, our very hopes of stabilizing the climate may be going up in smoke?

Today, scientists from around the world have started a race against the clock to prove, before it's too late, the importance of keeping these ecosystems alive and healthy. In the world's largest scientific institutions but also in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon forest, this cutting-edge research has a mission: to prove definitively the importance of forests in the formation of clouds and the regulation of climate.
