Barry is a comeback story of the ages. Once a successful horn player in the late 50s/early 60s, a bizarre accident left Barry without the ability to play. With the help of a proprietor with a heart of gold, Barry resurrects his career as a world class whistle player, playing on iconic hits from Donna Summer to Stevie Wonder.

Director Biography - Joan Hathaway

Joan Hathaway is a photographer and former radio DJ (WMBR) with a strong interest in music, culture, and politics. Recently working in film, she has shot music videos for Duke Levine, Sarah Borges, Club d'Elf, Lyle Brewer, The Silks, and Girls Guns and Glory (GGG). GGG's "Holiday Heartache" video is featured on Rolling Stone Country online.

Shot in Cambridge and Somerville, "Barry" is her short, narrative debut.

Barry blurs fact and fiction to both skewer and pay homage to America’s obsession with fame. By way of the rags-to-riches-tragedy-comeback story, the film exploits American pop culture, applying thick layers of nostalgia and sight gags for fun.
