What Is JAZZ? / The Way We Play
"What Is JAZZ?" is a longpiece choreography, dedicated to Jazz Music and Jazz Dance. Inspired by Marquis Hill Blacktet music and "The Way We Play" concept, departing from the tradition of rare jazz dance styles and its African roots, the performance is seeking for a Movement response to the contemporary jazz Sounds.

Artur Makarov is a dance film maker from Moscow, Russia, specializing in social dance filming as well as dance music clips and free art projects. Having a long-term training and experience in salsa dance, and a strong passion for filmmaking, Artur has started to experiment on the search of the connection between a dance movement and sound captured in film media creating free art projects, dance festival trailers and dance videos.
Gaining experience, knowledge and success, he has been hired as official videographer of such international dance festivals as Berlin Salsa congress, Evolution Solo Weekend (St. Petersburg), Timba Fest (Moscow) and many others.
For few years now, filmmaking has become his main profession and job and he is going on creating new pieces and elaborating his unique vision and artistic voice.
His project "What Is JAZZ? / The Way We Play" choreographed by a jazz dance artist Alina Sokulska has been selected for the main program of the video dance festival "Breaking 8" in Italy and has been screened publicly on December 7, 2017.
