Buenaventura Ibáñez, a memory without voice
Bonaventura Ibáñez's artistic career began in Barcelona as performer of pantomime and extended during the Golden age of the mute cinema, fundamentally in Italy. With more than eighty titles in his credit, he tooks part in the shoting of films as significant as Pastrone's 'Cabiria' (1914), Gaido's 'The Bridge of Sighs' (1921), Bonard's 'The Betrothed' (1922) or Genina's 'Cyrano de Bergerac' (1923). Also he formed a part of the cast of cinematographic projects as King's 'Romola' (1925), Reichmann's 'The fight against Berlin' (1925) or Fescourt's 'Monte Christ' (1929). Nevertheless, after intervening in some of his stutters —Genina's 'Miss Europa' (1930) or Florey's 'Love Songs' (1930), between other films-, he couldn't overcome the crisis provoked by the appearance of the talking pictures. Not even his Marquis' character in Buñuel's 'The golden age' (1930) has provided to him the place that deserves in the history of cinema.
