There are plenty of songs on birds in Bangladesh. But for the first time a film is being made on birds. The name of the film is ‘Paradise Nest’. It is being made as a short film. Cinematography & Directed by Arif Ahmed.
Arif Ahmed’s photographic heartland lies in documentaries of all kinds. He is now engaged in making documentaries film based on Birds & Wildlife of Bangladesh. People & nature are the leitmotifs of Arif’s works.
Usually birds are closest to the Mankind. There is a diversity of birds in Bangladesh. Even though Paradise Flycatcher was once very common in Bangladesh, now it has become quite rare to see. Paradise Flycatchers are also known as ‘Saheb Bulbuli’ or ‘Shah Bulbul’ locally. Even though the Paradise Flycatcher looks like Mavis(Bulbul), but they are not of same kind. There are plenty of songs on birds in Bangladesh. But for the first time a film is being made on birds. The name of the film is ‘Paradise Nest’. It is being made as a short film. Like any other films, there will be series of events in this film. The film ‘Paradise Nest’ focuses on a particular nest and tells the story of birds and their life, feelings, growing up, struggle with the nature, love, and also being the victim of the eco system. Even the change in the colour of this bird is shown in the film. There are 2 episodes on male paradise flycatchers. One episode is on maroon and one on white. Usually the male paradise flycatchers are maroon until they are 2 or 3 years old. But gradually it changes to pure white as they grow up. The tails of the male birds are three-times larger than the female birds. But the female birds look the same for their whole life.
Besides directing the film, I am producing it as well. It was very hard to look for their nests. Firstly I tried to understand their habits, where they can be located or how they behave. Different books on birds from all around the world helped me a lot. Most importantly I had to keep in mind that those birds shouldn’t be scared of me. Because if these birds ever get any sense of violence from me, they will be in danger of survival. The safest place on this earth for the birds is their nests. Their nests are their heaven. This is the reason why I named my film ‘Paradise Nest’. Even though it is an 8 and half minutes film, I had to really work hard for 5months. I enjoyed a lot while working, but also got hurt emotionally. Especially when the mother birds get drenched in rain to save their little babies, I felt a strange pain for my mother. The maternal love or care of these birds will make the humans think twice. Everyday these birds are disappearing and are getting endangered. Anyhow we have to save these birds. If they birds are saved, then the nature will be saved and the mankind will be saved.
