Director's Statement:
Stereotyping! Stereotyping leads to bigotry. Bigotry leads to racism. In this fractured society, we need to be reminded not to judge according to appearance, ethnicity, sexual preference, or gender. L'Apparenza Inganna goes right to the heart of this issue, which is why I considered directing it a great privilege.
Biography:
Gary Chason grew up putting on “garage shows” with his sister. He became an excellent singer, dancer, actor in youth then discovered directing in college and made that his life's work. His stage productions include: A Streetcar Named Desire; The Trojan Women; Ubu Roi; and Romeo/Juliet. In his mid-twenties he became a professional Casting Director with Oscar-winning films such as The Last Picture Show and Paper Moon on his resume. He has, to date, directed three feature films: Charlie's Ear; Everything or Nothing; and God Thinks You're a Loser, along with many short subjects. He is currently preparing to direct Christabel, a Poetry-Music Video of the Coleridge poem that he has been working on for 25 years. He is also a Writer, with stacks of screenplays to his credit as well as three children's novels. In his sixties, he was discovered as an Actor and has amassed an impressive body of work in independent films as a Character Actor. His acting work has been reviewed quite favorably in Variety and The Manchester Guardian, as well as numerous on-line publications. Having started his film career in 1970, he is now the longest continuously engaged film professional in the state of Texas.
