Director Monika Vass fell in love with cartoon animations as a child. At the age of ten, Monika told her stories in the form of comic drawings, and developed her early cartoon characters, inspired by traditional ones like Garfield, and Snoopy.
Ultimately Monika went on to study at The High School of Fine Arts (Budapest), and finished in 1997 with a graduation in animation.
She immediately started working in Hungarian animation studios such as: Pannónia, Varga, and Baestarts, at first as a cleanup artist and then later as a character supervisor.
Meanwhile, she became a mother and after 10 years of working in the animation industry, in 2007 Monika started to rediscover her own drawing creativity again, firstly, as a freelancer children’s book illustrator.
In 2013 she started to develop a YouTube channel especially for children - KerekMese - which became the most viewed Hungarian channel in 2015, and has continued to be no.1. since then.
Filmography:
1998-1999 Baby blues - character supervisor (Varga)
1999 Sheeep - character supervisor (Varga)
2001-2003 Mr Bean - cleanup artist (Varga)
2013- KerekMese series - 103 episodes
I believe that everyone has many talents which need to be improved and combined to make exciting, new things.
As a child I had to make a decision whether to learn music or to go into animation. Although I chose animation, and worked for 10 years in that field, finally my love in music come back, and the blending of different forms of art such as music, animation, storytelling, etc. resulted in something that had never existed before in my country, Hungary.
Each project I start to work on is different, exciting, and finds its way to different kind of people and children in the online video world. I want to create films that have something positive to say, but also make them different from each other, and show things with a new point of view. I wish I could show that everything can be kind, funny and entertaining.
