Director Biography - Garrett Neal

Hi! My name is Garrett Neal, and I’m primarily an animator above anything else. I was introduced to it when I was 9 after making stop motion animations with my mom’s camera and action figures. They were absolutely horrible, but it taught me what animation essentially was and the work that goes into it. A little bit later, I found a simple software called “Pivot stickfigure animator”, and became absolutely obsessed with it. During middle and early high school, I used animation in any school project I could fit it into, which either resulted in an A or F, depending on the teacher. Luckily, one of them was entered into a contest, allowing me to go to raleigh and talk to Roy Cooper, as well as help with a PSA campaign. From this, I eventually moved into the extremely daunting world of 3D animation with blender. I fiddled with the program but never actually did anything with it until high school which I used in my senior thesis project. It has always been a scary thing to learn, considering most people don’t enjoy discovering the lengths of what they don’t know. Since then I’ve used it off and on, but only scratched the tip of the iceberg. After coming here and taking a 3D modeling class, I switched to Maya and am trying to scrape away more and more, but it’s definitely a slow process, and I’m always learning.
