Director Biography - Rudy Bamenga, Wylie Rush

Rudy is a French born, New York based writer, performer, director & producer of Democratic Republic of Congolese descent. Doesn't exactly roll of the tongue when someone asks 'where are you from?’ but he take pride in the nooks and crannies of his identity. He has found that the reminder of his blackness in the United States, as opposed to the affirmation of his nationality (French) or the inheritance of his cultural roots (Congolese), to be an additional layer to those inquiring who he is as a person, which only stirs the pot more when adding the spice of identifying as gay while having been raised in the Roman Catholic faith. Hope you're intrigued.

Director Statement

After years of being dissatisfied with the roles he was being offered, Rudy started his journey of writing & telling stories that he wanted to see come to life. On top of several poems and narratives, he has successfully written four short films, two plays and one feature-length script (as well as a plethora of unfinished scripts and concepts) that are currently in pre-production, with 13 Minutes being the first to make it to production. He is very excited that the deadline for the 2019 RSF Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival has lit a fire in him to share his art, voice and message. He did not see stories like his growing up and he would like to change that for his younger self and for the generations to come.
