I really wanted to make this film as a way to give back to the village and community that were housing us during our short stay in Vanuatu. As the warrior dance ceremony is one of their biggest tourist attractions a well-made film that tells the story behind what the audience usually sees, will be a good tool to spike interest and provide deeper meaning to the ceremonies themselves either before of after an audience witnesses it for themselves. I also believe that with my background and passion for martial arts, but more importantly the warrior spirit I was the right person to helm this significant cultural project. The making of this film and the reception it has received after completion has been the most rewarding experience of my career. The reception from the cast and village featured in the film was extremely touching as it holds a higher meaning than I ever anticipated for them. As the star of the film Chief Kalories is a new chief after the passing of the old, the villages saw this film as a passing of the torch in a way. Seeing how moved everyone close to this production was with the final product was extremely emotional for me and fuels my desire to share this amazing culture with the world.
