Margem
A widowed and lonely woman dreams in reuniting her family again. Anabela hopes increases as her older son Rúben returns from prison. She hopes that he will be able to start again his life
and reacquaint with his younger brother Jorge, a rebellious teenager who left his mother’s house and went on living with his paternal grandmother. The short film “Margem” portraits a mother’s strength who always did everything for her children and never felt rewarded. “Margem” illustrates today’s society, its families and the feelings that consume them. Illustrates the children’ selfishness and their constant attempt to shun their responsibilites, one of the highligths of this short film.

Portuguese Film Director, Joel Brandão was born in 1994 in Porto. After finishing a degree in Communication and Multimedia by Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, his passion for cinema grew. Between 2012-2015 he produced several documentaries and institutional vídeos, before attending a Master in Cinema and Audiovisual at Universidade Católica do Porto, which he is presently finishing. In 2015 directed and produced Dan Riverman’s “Sea and the Breeze” and Cláudia Aurora’s “Mulher do Norte” music videos. In 2016 he worked as Assistant Director in Pedro Branco’s film “O Regresso”. Also worked in several short-duration advertisements for TV and Internet. The shortfilm “Margem”, his film debut, is a student project where he was director, scriptwriter as well as producer.
