Ryan Paulk was born and raised in the American Southwest town of Deming, New Mexico. He graduated from Deming High School in 2002.
Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry as a personal challenge and as a way escape small town life.
After serving multiple combat tours, Ryan was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal from the Marine Corps in 2006.
In 2007, Ryan moved to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Boston Architectural College. During that time he was inspired to use his war time journals and short screenplays to apply to film school. He was accepted and received a scholarship to attend film school at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Turning his experience in Iraq into a healthy stockpile of creative material that was highly influenced by experimental film. Paulk created his first 16mm student film of a short war time analogy entitled Dinnertime.
He later attended HB Studio in Manhattan where he was introduced to acting technique and the formalities of the theatre while continuing his studies in acting, filmmaking and directing through classes at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Harvard University.
