Richard Kane is an independent documentary filmmaker living and working on the coast of Maine. "J. Fred Woell: An American Vision" is Kane’s 4th feature documentary. "I Know a Man … Ashley Bryan" which to date has been in 14 festivals and won the Hector Leonardi Art & Inspiration Award is Kane’s 3rd feature documentary and the 16th film in his New England Emmy-nominated series Great American Artists. His 2nd feature "Imber’s Left Hand" won four BEST FILM Audience Awards and is now in national distribution. His first feature "M.C. Richards: The Fire Within" is a classic in the art film world.
Kane won a Cine Golden Eagle for the series "Faces of Microcredit" produced for the Microcredit Summit, chaired by then First Lady Hillary Clinton; wrote and produced for the White House "Technology: Renewing the American Dream", narrated by President Bill Clinton. Kane is the producer/director of the Natural Resources Council of Maine's 50th anniversary film, "Protecting the Nature of Maine". Kane's second short film "Tough, Pretty or Smart: A Portrait of the Patoka Valley Boys" won Best Short Documentary at the Cork International Film Festival and was short-listed for an Academy Award.
