Director Statement

I aim to embrace different challenging subjects within the films we create at Oxygen, and Pulse was no different. Alongside the very short narrative we'd given ourselves, told entirely through a stylised movement with no words, and shot completely in one continuous take - it was important for me to get as much emotion and capture the true devastation and struggle for young, gay men who are coming to terms with who they are.

Reflecting on the tragic massacre in Orlando last year, it was important to me to highlight the celebration and pride many gay men finally feel in a safe, LGBT-friendly space; as well as humanise them through a vast timeline of denial, cure, consideration, acceptance and finally celebration.

Since its release, we've had over 1,000,000 views worldwide, and a host of touching letters and messages from those affected by homophobia or gun violence. The film has screened at the BFI Flare London LGBT Film Festival in 2018, and we're excited to represent the United Kingdom at the UNESCO Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

I feel it's so important for young creatives and artists to have an opportunity to create something meaningful, and for our voices to be heard.

Thank you so much for watching, and considering our film for your festival.
