High School Love Story

For Laia, a High School student, there suddenly are more interesting things than McKidds German Literature Class and stretching exercises - unless the boys have PE class next to her - and that is: Cayden. Already Eighteen, laid-back and owner of a truck.
Laia can’t believe it when Cayden invites her to a beach party. But the elation sinks rapidly: drunk, rude dudes and Cayden’s ex-girlfriend flirting shamelessly with him. This isn’t Laias world. Still, the fascination for Cayden endures and Laia is missing more often in her own gang. As Laias best friend catches Cayden and her, Laia tries to deny their relationship. Cayden drives off and Laia stands alone.
On prom night, Cayden immediately pulls her into the changing room confronts her. The heavy argument merges into sex: because it works without words. But even the best moments have to end. Under the gaze of the entire school, Laia can’t stick with Cayden. Disappointed, he leaves the prom. As Laia realized that she stands alone again, she snatches Caydens car and drives off. When you hit a dead end, the only way is to flee forward into something new.

Director Statement

The wonderful time in which irrelevant things suddenly turn into the most important ones, like the moment in which the world turns upside down when one falls in love for the very first time, is what we want to capture in our film. It is a feeling that every person knows and still experiences in a very own way.

We are presenting this feeling through the eyes of a young high-school student. She takes us on a journey through the familiar ups and downs of growing up. When her girlfriends tell her that she shouldn’t hang with specific guys, she immediately doubts her decisions. But in the end, a short, furtive glance across the schoolyard and the his cunning grin is enough to answer her doubts: it’s him. Definitely.
For me, this is one of the few stories that has a very personal touch but addresses all humans equally.
