Passages of October
The film travels through a dour stretch of October with a few garish last autumn colours – “this fabrication of autumn roses” – in mostly grey wetlands. The music has a bygone, pastel wistfulness; music box tones in one speaker, woodwinds in the other, and a long spectral whistle. The toy-like sound of the melodic templates re-play as the film filters between the kitsch of the red deer rut and the ebbing light of grey willows.
