Originally from Chicago, Kate Coleman's ballet training got underway at the age of two and a half with a small studio in Naperville, Illinois after she broke her femur in a tunnel slide accident. The doctors recommended dance as therapy to walk again, and as they say “the rest is history.” She went on to further her education at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts: Dance Theater in June of 2016. While attending school she studied classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, Horton modern, pointe, and partnering. She also created, directed and choreographed two student productions, including a site-specific work based on the poems of Shel Silverstien. Kate discovered her love for dance on film during her time in LA and directed, edited and choreographed a student film to learn every aspect of the art of film. She is currently a company member of LA Contemporary Dance Company and Mixed Emotions Theatrics.
Kate is the director of the webseries Tales of the Universe, while also choreographing, editing and playing the character of Universe. She recently directed the Cilience band music video for the track Fetters and Feathers. Kate's film Syzygy took second place in Utah Dance Film Festival's MOVE: a 24 hour film competition.
Throughout her many years of dance Kate has had the privilege of working with countless choreographers and directors that have inspired and shaped her into the dancer she is today, including: Nicole Berger, Tracy Silver, Doriana Sanchez, Bonnie Story, Louis Jones, Katherine Tokarz, Leslie Stevens, Genevieve Carson, Brent Caburnay, Christian Denise, Lizzie MacKenzie Pontarelli, and many more.
