Singer and songwriter Sadek Bouzinou provides upbeat vocals in his music but on some he wails slower, in a more traditional North African guttural style. His rhythms offer hybrid instrumentation that incorporate the Algerian elements with blues, rock and reggae. Bouzinou, a charismatic charmer who has sung at protests calling for the release of political prisoners, emotes mournfully on political songs like 'Mazal', and is sometimes matched with equally touching, melancholy horn lines. Hope for more of these cultural blends live.
Sadek Bouzinou is also founder and singer of Democratoz Band.
This clip was released in solidarity with African immigrants in Algeria, in cooperation with a group of Algerian young artists and activists. The clip is entitled “Atini Yeddek” Arabic for “Give me your hand”. The clip features collective stories of African immigrants who had to flee their homelands because of war and havoc. In the recent months, an online anti-migrant campaign released a hashtag "No to Africans in Algeria" which was widely shared on Twitter and Facebook, calling for expulsions to protect Algerian families and prevent "chaos". This song was a response to those racist and extremist voices. It affirms the hospitality of the Algerian people, which shares the same African land, with our brothers who suffer war and turmoil.
