CATCALLS
A man cruises around late at night looking for something. He pulls in to ask two young girls for directions - only to flash them to get a cheap thrill. Unfortunately, he has picked the wrong girls. They are also out hunting tonight and they will stop at nothing to get their kill.
"Catcalls" explores the themes of street harassment and the idea of women being made victims in safe spaces like their own communities. In this fictional horror, the power is shifted and the predator becomes the prey.

A few months ago, my friend and I were walking home at around 11:30pm. We both lived near where we were at the time so we thought walking home at that time of night should be safe enough. When we were about 5 minutes from our homes a car pulled up to ask us directions. My friend, being a very trusting and innocent soul, obliged. The driver of the car, a 35-year-old man I’d say, started masturbating at us.
He then drove off as quickly as he’d pulled in. I remember feeling enraged that I could not walk home at that time of night without feeling in some way unsafe. I was livid that a creep like that guy could take away my safety and make me feel like a victim in my own neighbourhood.
What I found most interesting is when speaking to the Gardai about the incident they said when they went to his house to arrest him the man had started to cry. I found the complexity of what had happened really interesting and how the status of the different individuals could change so quickly.
I wanted to write something that subverted this idea of males preying on female. I wanted to make something in which the woman was not the victim, but the predator, and also where the male predator became vulnerable.
