Yakov' s land

Documentary “Yakov’s Land”. A detailed story of the main character who lost both his legs in the 1988-1994 War for Independence of Nagorno-Karabakh (autonomy comprising Azerbaijani Soviet Republic). Yakov Altunyan didn’t break down having become disabled. He recieved higher education, got married. Now Yakov is a happy husband of a charming wife, a passionate and caring father of three children. Yakov laid out a vineyard in the minefield which has been cleared and he dreams of a small wine factory. The film is about the Altunyan family, about the village of Mec Tager, about life after the war, peaceful routine of everyday life in permanent fear of new military actions. About dreams that come true… Yakov’s grandpa fought in the First World War, during the Second World War Yakov’s father was wounded in Kerch and became disabled, Yakov was wounded and became disabled in the War for Independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Yakov’s fifteen-year-old son Grigori is very happy to be in summer military camp for High School students. A young man with very serious eyes says the war may begin tomorrow and he may not have time to serve in the army but go straight to the front, so it’s good to gain some experience and skills. ..Director Aza Babayan, Production Doc Lab Armenia, 2017. Director Biography - Aza Babayan

Director Aza Babayan, Production Doc Lab Armenia, 2017. The second film of the director. The first is a documentary “Five Angles of Dovlatov” co-authored by Vadim Dubnov (Armenia, 2015) ArtDocFest , Moscow 2015, Golden Apricot, Yerevan 2016, Russian documentary film festival in New York, 2016 .
About the director – Aza Babayan, Moscow corespondent of Armenian Office of Radio Free Europe since 2004.
