Director Biography - Justin Appleton

Justin Appleton is a filmmaker who was born and raised in New Jersey. He recently earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film Production from Full Sail University. He also has a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts (BFA) in Film Production from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Justin Appleton grew up as a successful high school athlete. He was a three-sport captain, was a Bergen County All Star and led his high school football team to the New Jersey State Championship at Giants Stadium. It wasn’t until he went to college, where he took an Intro to Cinema Course, in which he found a passion for cinema studies and filmmaking. At
Hofstra University, Justin made a great impression with his cohorts and supervisors in a short amount of time. As a member of the exclusive Script Doctors club, he was admired amongst his peers for helping them revise and edit their scripts. After that, he was the producer/1st A.D for his cohort’s thesis film The White Room. The film went on to take 1st place at The Hofstra Film Festival and was nominated for best student film at the Long Island International Film Expo. At Full Sail University, Justin had the honor of being selected as the writer/director of his class’s thesis film. Lemonade Stand had a wide cast and crew of 64 people, ran a successful crowd-funding campaign, had a budget of $30,000 and came in on time and under budget. In just one
short year, he was a key position on a total of 9 films, several of which he wrote and directed such as Fantasy Ball, Six-Cup and Wrong Choices. After graduation, Justin plans on opening his own production company so he can write, produce and direct his own content.

Director Statement

Lemonade Stand is a political satire that pokes fun at the ineffectiveness of the government. Believe it or not this film was inspired by true events as this is something that actually
happens. The film’s protagonist, despite her young age, is the most grounded person in an over the top pessimistic world. She is altruistic, uncorrupted and optimistic, as opposed to the
elder antagonists, who have been jaded by the perversions of humanity.
