The Water Protector
In solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, this film was created to draw parallels with the film makers own home, Wales, exploring their countries own struggle with the stripping of natural resources and the pollution of its waters. The writer Carmen, has spent time with indigenous tribes of the Wampanoag nation who lost their language to colonialism. She felt she could identify with a loss of land, language and identity having lost her own native language and land to the coal mining industry. She has used the rich language and storytelling of indigenous nations to create a visual poem drawing upon the elements and how we should listen to our mothers of the Earth to ensure we live in harmony with our environment.
