Film makers Simon and Carmen wanted to create a film that would be open to interpretation, something simplistic and yet powerful. This is the first film in their collaboration.
Both Carmen and Simon have come together to create authentic films pertinent to Wales with universal themes. Drawing upon two of Carmen's favourite films 'Red Balloon' and 'White Mane' the filmakers wanted to create a story that could portray powerful emotions with a simple device, hence the paper boat was born. Utilising Carmen's home valley of the Garw, which once thrived as Mining boom town she wanted to pay homage to her home and what happens when one returns home to the source. Water has been a recurrent theme in the filmmakers slate of work, you can also see 'Water Protector' and a forthcoming final contribution to the trilogy. Simon has skillfully captured the beautiful landscape to create a poignant film that will leave the audience with their own thoughts.
