Tourism Calamity
The uniqueness of Kuttanad/Alappuzha in the tourism map of the world has attracted tourists from all over the world to this narrow strip of land in Kerala, India. This has given its natives struggling to find their livelihood with agriculture for a long time with job opportunities. But everything comes with a price. More than 100 species of fish and other aqua life forms have vanished in recent times. Epidemics of infection and Cancer is rampant in the area. Wrong agricultural practices add on to the water pollution. Oil leakage from houseboats is a major hazard to water-life. Human excreta from nearby households are drained to water bodies directly. Can we be more responsible and scientific when treating places with such delicate ecological balance?
