Writer Statement

"THE CONSUL GENERAL'S WIFE" is my second screenplay. It features a strong female lead in a high-action political thriller. The idea emerged while travelling in Turkey, observing the inner workings of the US Consulate, and life in a Muslim country. Women were subjugated in both -- and at the time I believed that we were about to enter an era with strong women in positions of power, a theme I wanted to develop and contrast with the past. I feel strongly that with women in control, the world would be a more peaceful and healthier place. As I wrote, I also saw how quickly the political environment can change, and how we can find ourselves suddenly in peril. I believe the innate strength, peacekeeping and nurturing nature of women is needed more urgently now than ever. This script reflects that world view.
