A Stone's Throw from Prison

Growing up in the Opt is not easy. On any night, a group of soldiers may take you to prison, after blinding and handcuffing you in front of your family. You do not need to do anything special, just be a kid. Rami, Ahmed, Mohammed... Three among thousands. The film is their story, but also that of courageous Israelis and Palestinians working to cut abuses, stop conflict and heal its consequences

Director Biography - Raquel Castells

Raquel Castells is a film expert, producer and filmmaker currently based in Beirut, Lebanon. After graduating in Film Studies at Sheffield Hallam University (Sheffield, U.K) she went back to Spain to start her professional career working on feature films with Bocaboca (Joan Potau’s San Bernardo), Cartel (Gonzalo López Gallego’s Nómadas) and Lola Films (Emilio Martínez Lázaro’s La voz de su amo) in the late 1990s. She also worked in production for Dream Team Produccio, SL (Advertisement Production Company) in campaigns for companies such as Hyundai and Danone.
In 2002 Raquel moved to Belgium where she worked as film programmer for the Festival Cinémas d’Espagne et d’Amérique Latine of Brussels for almost seven years. She was also involved in the production team of Intercommunication a.s.b.l. as well as in the organization of film markets both in Europe and Latin America.
In 2007 she obtained a European Certificate in Audiovisual Financing and Commercialisation at the Institut Nacional de l’Audiovisuel and Paris 1 Sorbonne University with the support of the Media Programme.
When Raquel moved to Jordan in 2008 she began to create a network of contacts in the region, which led her to organize the Spanish Cinema Days in Amman, with the support of the Royal Film Commission of Jordan. Her contacts with the ECHO office (European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection), YMCA and other humanitarian organizations as well as with local producers led to the development of this project.
Raquel Castells is currently developing other projects in the region.
