After Information Series - The Infumis
"The Infumis" is a community that live beneath large traffic intersections - such as Birmingham's Gravelly Hill Interchange - and have developed an alternative means to dealing pollutants. In this world, intersections effectively become farms where air and water pollutants are harvested to nourish the body of this people. The project can function as a cautionary narrative, challenging our understanding of the atmosphere.
In this scenario, the microbiome is manipulated to host bacteria such as Marinobacter Hydrocarbonoclasticus, which is able to synthesise pollutants - i.e. Hydrocarbons (CH) - into nutrients. Hairs are bioengineered to become digestive systems that can absorb these nutrients directly into the bloodstream. Please refer to diagram below.
