Experiencing Interruptions?

Urban Urgency

When time is sped up, it gives a sense of an urban environment. Combining the use of layering multiple videos and creating contrast between them by applying complementary colours, reveals the reality of busy melbourne roads and crowded train stations with an aesthetic touch.

An experimental film that uses techniques such as timelapse and layering, to interpret a busy city life with a focus on crowds, cars and public transport. Sometimes these things get taken for granted when you are living in a big city, so it is good to observe the urban environment from a different perspective, such as timelapse to really exaggerate how busy melbourne can be and give a feeling of urgency. Complimentary colours are another great tool that is used to manipulate this film and to give a sense of contrast while still blending the layered videos together aesthetically. For example 2 videos are layered together, one has a red hue, the other has a green hue. Not only do the the colours assist with fusing the videos together, but certain shapes, shades and highlights are Used in order to create a flow. The busy intersection timelapse at night flows well when the layered video of the train passes by and fits right into the shape of the road, while also creating a darker tone that allows you to see the other video clearer, in the parts where the train are.
